Butter Chicken Poutine: A Delicious Indian-Canadian Fusion

Butter Chicken Poutine Recipe | Indian-Canadian Fusion

Looking for a unique dish that combines the bold flavors of Indian cuisine with the comforting richness of Canadian comfort food? This "Butter Chicken Poutine" recipe does just that! It's a delightful fusion that brings together the creamy, spiced butter chicken sauce with crispy fries and squeaky cheese curds, just like traditional Canadian poutine. Perfect for a fun dinner night!

Ingredients

For the Butter Chicken:

  • 500g boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

For the Poutine:

  • 500g frozen or fresh French fries
  • 1 1/2 cups cheese curds (or shredded mozzarella as a substitute)
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, mix the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, lemon juice, and salt. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best results).

Step 2: Cook the Butter Chicken

Heat butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces and cook until they are browned and cooked through. Set the chicken aside.

In the same pan, add the tomato puree and cook for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Stir in the heavy cream and let the sauce simmer for another 5 minutes. Add the cooked chicken back to the pan and mix well. Let it simmer for 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh cilantro and set aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Fries

While the butter chicken is simmering, prepare the French fries according to the package instructions (or fry fresh potatoes if you're using fresh ones). Make sure they are crispy and golden. Season with salt.

Step 4: Assemble the Butter Chicken Poutine

To assemble, place a generous amount of crispy fries on a plate. Sprinkle the cheese curds over the fries. Pour a hearty serving of butter chicken on top, making sure the hot sauce melts the cheese curds.

Garnish with chopped cilantro and green onions if desired. Serve immediately while the fries are crispy, and the cheese is melting into the rich butter chicken sauce.

Enjoy!

This dish combines the best of both worlds: the iconic poutine with its indulgent fries and cheese curds, and the creamy, flavorful butter chicken sauce from Indian cuisine. It's a perfect meal to enjoy with friends or family, especially for those who love fusion foods!

Butter Chicken Poutine is a great way to merge the bold flavors of Indian spices with the comforting texture of Canadian poutine. Try this recipe at your next gathering and watch everyone fall in love with this fusion sensation!
